mi amigos
my gypsy travel obsession started after a trip to Mexico. My mom, grandmother, and I went to Puerta Vallartat celebrate Grammy's 80th birthday. 3 generations of these genes = madness.
I had one extra night on my own before I flew out and decided to take the local train 45minutes to Sayulita (the closest surf spot).
I checked into my adorable little hotel and went straight out to the sea where I immediately met these 3 amigos.
they were there for a few weeks, writing music for their band Priestbird and surfing all day.
All of them were so kind and mellow. Such a joy to be around.
They could tell my sayulita stoke was too much to fit into 24 hours and insisted that I extend my trip.
So, I did. I learned my first lesson in gypsy travel..... you're never going to have enough money and your never going to have enough time off work.... so book your ticket anyway.... it will work itself out and always be worth it.
I spent the week sleeping on the patio of their casita, on top of a boardbag, with a mexican blanket and a stray puppy. It was then that I really feel in love with surfing. I was alone, but surrounded by amazing insta friends
Greg, one of my band brothers spent time in topanga (LA) to get out of NY every once in awhile. We tried to get out in the water a few times but never crossed paths; until one day I was waiting for the tide to go out in Malibu and sent him a text "if by chance your in the area...im surfing malibu". The guy sitting behind me called my name. It was Greg, with all of his hair cut off! "you got my text?" I said. "No, I don't have my phone"
gypsy travel perk: the people you meet on your gyspy travels will come in and out of your life in the most magical ways
a little fairy dust to sprinkle on that story.....
2 days before I had been surfing with some girlfriends in San Diego and we were talking about how its tough to find a comfortable surfing bath suit (without ties ect.) it reminded me of the perfect surf suit that I got for free for a fashion show. I love all free things, but this suit really was great. I hadn't thought about it in ages and had NO idea where it disappeared to.
Greg paddled out to meet me in the water and said " You left a bathing suit in Sayulita. I had it in my car. Just threw it on your towel."
fast forward. I now live in my new spot in Venice Beach and Greg and his beautiful mexican girlfriend live 3 blocks away.
He's rocking out with Devendra these days and still doing Priestbird. Living the life in my neighborhood. Every time I see him I hear a little voice in my head that says "Travel gypsy, travel" It was a special trip and moment in my life. I'm thankful he's around to remind me of that

more heavenly surf
wave after wave after wave, through the crowd. a truly breathtaking sunset. a double rainbow. lightening. and dolphins jumping completely out of the water straight up over and over again.

Hootenanny
Origin
See also: Almanac Singers
According to Pete Seeger, in various interviews, he first heard the word hootenanny in Seattle, Washington in the late 1930s. It was used by Hugh DeLacey’s New Deal political club [1] to describe their monthly music fund raisers. [2] After some debate the club voted in the word hootenanny, which narrowly beat out the word wingding. Seeger, Woody Guthrie and other members of the Almanac Singerslater used the word in New York City to describe their weekly rent parties, which featured many notable folksingers of the time. [3] In a 1962 interview in Time Joan Baez made the analogy that a hootenanny is to folk singing what a jam session is to jazz. [4]
Country roads, take me home,
To the place where I belong,
West Virginia, mountain mama.
Take me home, country roads.
All my mem'ries gather 'round her,
Miner's lady stranger to blue waters.
Dark and dusty painted on the sky,
Misty taste of moonshine
Hootenanny was also an old country word for "party". Now, most commonly, it refers to a folk-music party.
best 24 hour hootenanny ever?!? Indeed. How are we going to top it this weekend?

God, I've fallin into the internet black hole this morning. Ignoring my list of things to do, which I'm obviously STILL doing as I complain about it, but willing to blame it on the fact that I haven't had coffee. HA I had a smoothie (my favorite thing to drink and I feel like I'm floating)
I realize everyone slacks off at work sometimes, but when you work for Free the Slaves that's just unacceptable.
So, back to my busy busy couple of months
and it's time to be honest with myself ...... I should consider going to sleep a little earlier

i surrendered to the fall
as the first full fall moon rose
and the last summer sunset
I sat in between them on my surfboard
and watched them as they met

this is it
Sometimes it just sneaks up on you, tawney, doesn't it? You don't even see it coming. Suddenly and without warning, you're surrounded by the best friends you've ever known. You're waking up in the mornings just "dying" to get into the day. There's a lightness in your step and a gleam in your eye. Your thinking is new, your laughter frequent, and you're drawn to tears whenever you hear happy tales. You're on a roll, so it's not like you're thinking about it, but if you were to think about it, you wouldn't know what's gotten into you, nor would you recall just when. You'd only shake your head whenever you thought of how quickly everything can change... Just something to remember the next time you don't see something coming. By the way, you row my oars - The Universe YESSSSSS!!!!! it does just sneak up on you |

if it was appropriate to personalize this, I would
…“Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Rene Descartes, Leonardo da Vinci, Sylvia Earl, and Albert Einstein. “…

a rainbow dinner
we had another birthday dinner at our house of love.... for Ashley! aka Rainbow Sky Weaver which was the indian name given to her as a child. We decided to highlight her native american name by having everyone bring a dish that was all one color. An entertaining evening indeed.

some quality time outdoors
camping in Ojai from tawney bevacqua on Vimeo.
I don't know what on earth made me want to go camping alone over the weekend. Honestly, I don't think it was anything on earth. It didn't even feel like their was a decision to make. I heard very clearly "Go somewhere, by yourself" but it's not like a little fairy whispered it in my ear, I didn't actually hear the words. Usually when I decide on something there is an internal affirmation, but I was buying myself a one person tent before there was even time to talk myself out of it.
in 24 hours I covered 10 miles with a backpack full of food, water, tent, sleeping bag, tarp, and other little things that apparently added up to... heavy. It was about 95* hiking into the camp sight. It was hard not to think about snakes, hiking in at least. There was a stream by the campsite. It was all really beautiful. At sunrise, after a starry night, I was walking along the stream jumped off a big rock and took two steps right into this guys personal space.
he took a strike at my leg. It all happened pretty fast, but I'm pretty sure (like I've always said) I'm the luckiest girl in the world. So, I've almost died twice in the past 3 weeks. interesting.
I hiked back to reality with a group of grad students that were nearby. And that was it.... enjoyed the rest of my weekend in the comfort of my own snakeless home :)
Rattlesnake's Message and Medicine
Rebirth / Renewal / Transformation / Wisdom / Healing / Primitive Energy
All snakes are symbolic of death and rebirth because they shed their skin as they outgrow the old. In ancient times snakes signified the mysterious; they were primitive symbols of the Great Mother Goddess. If rattlesnake is your power animal there will be significant changes in some area of your life. You are going through a major transitional period. Try to make conscious choices and pay attention to your dreams which may contain valuable information about those changes. Make sure of the intention of others before you strike out at them. Rattlesnakes message is change and renewal. Perhaps you need to take time out to digest new information or knowledge. Attend a Goddess workshop and get closer to nature. You are most powerful when you meditate, or spend some quite time outdoors.

untied
"But when you talk of love, there is duality, is there not - the person who loves and the entity called God who is loved? The individual is not separate from God. Hence love means one has love towards one’s own Self. Only if one knows the truth of love, which is the real nature of Self, will the strong entangled knot of life be untied. Only if one attains the height of love will liberation be attained. Such is the heart of all religions. The experience of Self is only love, which is seeing only love, hearing only love, feeling only love, tasting only love and smelling only love, which is bliss."

We've won the lottery of life
A few of you have mentioned Half the Sky and yes, it's the best book I've read all year
here is Sheryl WuDunn's TED talk on oppression of women. She says number 1 on the agenda is sex trafficking.
She also say's "we've won the lottery of life and with that comes great responsibility"
the last two minutes will inspire!
please watch...read the book.... and if you're into this stuff check out our Free the Slaves blog and join my world
